Haematoma

A haematoma is usually the result of an impact trauma. It is the collection of blood, usually located just under the skin or deeper soft-tissue.

An inter-muscular haematoma is where the swelling and bleeding are confined to the sheaths surrounding the muscle group.

In an intra-muscular haematoma, the bleeding and swelling surrounds just one muscle, rather than the group of muscles. Intra-muscular is therefore more localised.
