Preventative methods

Exercise and particular sports are potentially very dangerous and hazardous. There are many important safety factors that must be recommended in both the general preparation for exercise, and during the exercise session itself. An awareness of the potential hazards enables the teacher, instructor or coach to enjoy their teaching of exercise safe in the knowledge that they are prepared for most eventualities and can avoid many of the problems before they occur.

When organising any form of exercise, whether in a group situation, gym or on the pitch, competitive or not, there are many considerations to take into account. These include;

  • Fitness level and structure of session.
  • Adherence to rules and regulations of governing body.
  • Suitable and safe clothing, footwear and equipment.
  • Supervision by a qualified coach, instructor, or PE Teacher.
  • Correct technique of sports skill.
