Introduction to the cardiovascular system

The cardiovascular system is composed of the heart, the blood vessels and the blood. Its function is to:

  • Deliver nutrients to all the cells of the body.
  • Remove waste products.
  • Circulate oxygen to all of the cells in the body and remove carbon dioxide.
  • Protect the body against disease and infection.
  • Transport hormones.
  • Regulate body temperature.
