Bradford City fire

Another tragedy was the Bradford City Football Club Fire (1985) which saw 56 people die in a terrace fire. This incident led to the amendment of the Act in 1987, introducing the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act. The new legislation introduced two new areas:

  1. A means of escape in the case of a fire
  2. A means for fighting a fire.

This legislation requires a fire risk assessment be undertaken. This provides for a more flexible approach to the specifics of fire protection.
