Exercise adherence factors
Although considerations and solutions to barriers need to be taken into consideration when planning a training programme, it is also important to create ways in which encourage adherence to exercise.
The following factors should be followed when planning a training programme:
- Implementing enjoyable activities
- Setting SMARTER targets
- Keeping a training diary or log
- Giving yourself a reward for reaching a short term target and a larger reward for completing the entire programme.
- Getting support from others - peers, family, coach, fitness instructor through discussion e.g. help with transport
- Seeking reinforcement - from self or others such as a fitness instructor.
