Tactical analysis

Tactical analysis is often linked to an athlete's ability to read the game and perform specific sporting actions or instructions. An example from football could be the use of the offside trap as a defensive tactic by a team. It is important that all members of the team are aware of the tactic and implement it effectively during the game. The coach will need to analyse the effectiveness of the team as a unit as well as each individual player during the game and provide them with feedback on performance.

A range of methods can be used to analyse a team or individuals tactical performance. The development of technology and performance analysis software has made analysis more accessible and much more detailed. Notational analysis which has previously been widely used in elite sport is being rapidly replaced by systems such as Pro Zone and Sports Code Game Breaker software.
