How to record the data

The most effective method of recording data when using notational analysis is in a table format with clearly labelled columns and headings. It is also advisable to use a short hand code to identify actions that are being recorded. For example H maybe used to symbolise a header performed in football. Alongside a recording table a pitch template may also be required to identify areas on the playing surface, this is vital to provide accurate information in regards to where outcomes and actions are taking place during a game.
