Definitions of personality

No two people are the same; each and every one has their own unique personality characteristics. The characteristics determine what an individual chooses to do in life and to what level. For example what sport (football, golf, hockey etc) they participate in, what position (midfielder, right back), what event they do (100m sprint, high jump, and marathon) and what level they reach (recreational, national, and international).

Personality can be defied in many ways, here are a few:

'A blend of psychological characteristics that make individuals unique'. (Weinberg & Gould, 1995)

'The more or less stable and enduring organisation of a persons character, temperament, intellect which determines the unique adjustment to the environment'. (Eysenck, 1996)

'Those relatively stable & enduring aspects of individuals which distinguish them from other people, making them unique but at the same time permit a comparison between individuals' (Gross, 1992)
