Health and Safety

Health and safety considerations prior to testing are essential to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the testing procedures. The following list may help to ensure a safe environment for testing is created:

  • Is the area safe for fitness testing? Is the surface non slip?
  • Has an informed consent form been completed?
  • Has a physical activity readiness questionnaire (Par-Q) been completed?
  • If any medical issues have been identified, have they had clearance from a doctor?
  • Are the testers trained and know exactly how to perform each test?
  • Are there data sheets to record all the results?
  • Has the sequence of the testing session been decided?
  • Have all participants had a rest day prior to testing?
  • Has all the test equipment been calibrated?
  • Have all participants got the correct kit and do they have a drinks bottle?
  • Have participants practised complicated tests on a previous day so they are accustomed to the demands?
  • Have the aims and protocols of the tests been explained?
  • Has a warm-up been completed prior to starting the tests?
