Fitness

Fitness is paramount for any physically exerting activity we do. What is it that makes Usain Bolt the fastest man in the world? Consider what Joe Cole had to do in order to return to football following his broken leg, the time and dedication of rehabilitation and training in order to get back to fitness. Regardless of your ability in sport, we all need certain levels of fitness in order to perform at our best. It is important for all individuals to have a good level of fitness for physical health, self-confidence, and to prevent injury. In terms of elite sport, fitness needs to be monitored and developed in order to peak at exactly the right time for performance.

Fitness is important to all athletes because:

  • It can improve physical performance in sport
  • It aids recovery from training and competition more quickly
  • It reduces the chance of injury
  • It increases time to fatigue, possibly enhancing technique
  • It increases energy levels and helps with being able to train and compete successfully.
