Mentoring and coaching

A mentor is someone more experienced who acts as a guide to a less experienced athlete, providing counselling, coaching and advice when needed. This could simply be a more experienced athlete in the sport, a team mate, a coach or manager and so on.

Mentors are an excellent way for athletes' to seek advice and help, talk about problems and learn how to behave appropriately. It is a more realistic way of learning, as an athlete will know that the mentor has been through the same experience themselves so will have a clear understanding of the situation and will give realistic help and advice.
